Orange gives a nice sweet and sour to the dish Spicy Orange chicken. When added to the chicken recipe, the taste got increased manifolds. It became tangy. We can increase the taste of chicken when it is prepared by orange.
- Chicken breasts – 2 (cubed into small pieces)
- Orange juice – 1 cup
- Orange zest -1 tbsp
- Ginger -1 tbsp ( finely chopped)
- Garlic – 1tsp ( finely chopped)
- Soya sauce- 1tsp
- Cornflour – 3 tbsp
- Sugar – 1 tsp
- Spring onion -1 tbsp ( chopped)
- White pepper powder – 1 tsp
- Chilli flakes-1 tsp
- Roasted sesame -1 tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Orange slices- few for garnishing
- Saloni mustard oil – 1/2 cup
Step 1. Wash and drain the chicken pieces thoroughly.
Step 2. Prepare an orange slurry by mixing orange juice with 1 tsp of cornflour. Mix well.Keep aside.
Step 3. In a mixing bowl add chicken pieces, soya sauce, and white pepper powder. Mix well, cover and keep aside for 20 minutes.
Step 4. Next, add cornflour and give it a nice mix.
Step 5. Heat oil in a pan. Deep fry the chicken pieces until lightly golden.
Step 6. Place them on paper towels.and wait for some time.
Step 7. In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of mustard oil.
Step 8. Add chopped garlic and saute for few seconds.
Step 9. Then add ginger and stir until the raw flavors go off.
Step 10. Then add chicken pieces slowly
Step 11. Stir for few seconds.
Step 12. Add orange slurry to the chicken pieces.
Step 13. Add sugar.
Step 14. Cook until the gravy thickens.
Step 15. Add orange zest.
Step 16. Remove from heat.
Step 17. Garnish with spring onion, slices of orange and roasted sesame seeds.
Serve spicy orange chicken hot with fried rice or parathas
Note: This recipe has soya sauce, so be careful while adding salt.
